What it is
LAW (Learn Arm Waving) School is a program open to all Region 12 Sweet Adelines to help them develop and improve their arm-waving skills. With four different levels, it provides a place for everyone from the completely inexperienced to those who direct on a regular basis. Students select their own levels based on their experience or expertise, or with the help of one of the professors.
What it is not
LAW School deals with the arm waving part of directing and will not address the many other aspects of being a director. The DCP (Director Certification Program) is a program sponsored by Sweet Adelines International which provides resources regarding those rather important things such as analytical listening, vocal production, rehearsal planning, etc.
When it is
Two workshops are held in the Spring and Fall. The date for the next workshop is October 18.
People who have participated in LAW
-
Regional administrative leaders who are sometimes invited to direct during a chorus visit.
-
Section leaders who want to lead a section rehearsal more efficiently.
-
Those who are simply "curious" but have no immediate plans to use the skills.
-
Assistant directors seeking constructive feedback and an opportunity to practice.
-
Aspiring directors and assistant directors.
