MEET CINDY...

Born Cynthia Kay Hansen in May of 1959 in the small town of Greenville, Michigan, her parents Bob and Ruth Hansen were involved in Barbershopping and Sweet Adelines before Cindy was born. She is actually a third generation “Barbershop Brat”. Her late grandfather started a very active Chapter in Greenville, Michigan where her Grandfather, Father, Uncle, and Great Uncle, all sang in a quartet together. She attended Men's Internationals during family vacations while her father competed.

Cindy's family is very musical. Her father owns a family Music Store started by her Grandfather. Her mother works in community theater and is very active with High School Musicals and Children’s Theater. Cindy began singing in Sweet Adeline’s while she was in College at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1981.

Cindy most recently designed the last 3 Gold Medal packages for The Vocal Majority (SWD), as well as designed and taught the often talked about acceptance song - Joshua. Other coaching includes: Northern Lights (ONT), Sound of the Rockies (RMD), Alliance (JAD), The New Tradition (ILL), Big Chicken (DIX) Great Northern Union (LOL), Southern Gateway (JAD), Senate-Aires (EVG), Phoenicians (FWD), EntertainMen (SNOBS), Houston Tidelanders (SWD), and many other. In Sweet Adelines Cindy has coached the San Diego Chorus, Ramapo Valley (Lion King package), Gem City, Houston Horizon, Song of Atlanta, Pride of Toledo, Pride of Portland, Spirit of the Gulf, among others.

Cindy prides herself on helping quartets decide who they want to be. She has coined the phrase "enhansenments". She has been lucky enough to work with groups such as: A Cappella Gold (2000), Razzcals, Acoustix (1990), The Ritz (1991), Nightlife (1996), Revival (1998), FRED (1999), 4 Voices (2002), Uptown Sound, Power Play (2003), Metropolis, Freestlye, Riptide, Gotcha! (2004), Finale, MatriX, Rhythmix, Jumbalya, just to name a few - College Champs: 4 Voices (1996), Reprise (2001), Cat Fish Bend (2002).

Outside the Barbershop World Cindy has contracted with: Main Street Entertainment of Disney World, Rescue (2001 - Gospel Group of the Year), Dapper Dans of Disney World, And many mixed a cappella groups, and travels all over the world to coach in The Netherlands, Denmark, Scotland, Sweden, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. Cindy has been guest faculty at Harmony College, IES (International Education Symposium) and Barbershop at Sea cruises.

Cindy currently owns a home in San Antonio, Texas. She has a Social Work degree and has worked in the business world as a Director of Customer Service for the Health Care Industry, Regional Director of Risk Management and Professional Liability, and consulted as a specialist on Regulatory Licensing, and has been an Expert Witness in HMO compliance.
