Education is What We're About

You've all read it. The mission statement for Sweet Adelines International reads, "Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance." The education piece is primary to our enjoyment of this musical hobby. It's what makes us progress on our way to exciting, polished, inspirational performances.

We have many skilled leaders here in Region 12, some of whom share their talents through coaching and teaching. Recently, the Region 12 Faculty Program has been established to organize the talent pool of regional coaches and teachers, to promote ongoing training, and to encourage development of new faculty.

Most of our faculty members are musical leaders who are interested in coaching quartets or choruses or teaching music classes at regional weekends. Others have administrative expertise, which they share through facilitating goal-setting or problem-solving sessions or teaching specialty classes.

Listed below are the current members of the Region 12 Faculty Program, along with the areas of expertise they have specified as particular interests. Note that the word "General" in the listings refers to "general music education; good singing, in general."

A description of the program is available on the Region 12 website, along with an application form. Applications will be reviewed in the months of September and October; new faculty program participants will be announced in January.

Please remember that 3 individuals in Region 12 are also part of the International Faculty Program, working not only within the region but also sharing their talents in other regions throughout the organization. Master Directors Pat LeVezu and Shirley Kout, both certified judges in the sound category, are experienced teachers and coaches. Pat McCandless has skills in administrative areas, particularly with membership program issues and leadership development. All three International Faculty members are available to Region 12 choruses.

The strength of our organization lies in its members. We learn from one another. Thank you to each of you who have expressed an interest in facilitating that learning. We appreciate you, for after all, education is what we're about.
