Summer AIM Schedule and Class Descriptions:
This is a FREE educational event and will be live-streamed to our Region 12 Youtube channel so there is no registration or sign-up involved. All-Region 12 members can either click on the Youtube link on our Region 12 website or go directly to the Region 12 Youtube channel to view the classes on the day of the event. All classes will be recorded for regional members who cannot watch the classes live.
- Lea Beverley, 10:00-11:15= Demystifying the Expression Category - YouTube Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLiA1cCGf8k
This class will answer the question: What is the Expression Category? We'll delve into the individual technical and artistic elements & explore how they impact communication of the story. Clips of barbershop (& nonbarbershop!) performances will demonstrate various technical components and overall heartfelt delivery. A few judging concepts, your questions and, hopefully, some humor, will round out the experience.
- Dede Nibler, 11:30-12:30= Breathing to Sing - YouTube Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvQ2GiSWjE8
A secure singer is a prepared singer and breathing is the foundation of singing. No matter how well you are presently singing, it is possible to enhance your performance with improved breathing techniques. Every warm-up routine should include some physical exercises, which promote healthy breathing habits. "Breathing to Sing" will give insight into how singers support musical phrases with ease and relaxation.
- Lea Beverley, 1:00-2:15= Embellishment--Barbershop Ear Candy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jijy8jNylKk
Embellishments are an important (& fun) aspect of barbershop arrangements and storytelling. We'll define the variety of embellishments and explore how they impact the performance. There will be audio demos of good and not so effective use of these delightful gems.
- LIVE NOW Julie Starr, 2:30-3:30= Being Your Own Vocal Coach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW2PRVtEGqE
In these days of sheltering-in-place, we can still keep our singing skills strong and even improve them! Learn ways to listen to yourself with "wide ears" and "focused ears," and use the information you already have to become a better singer! The class will include time for Q&A and trial-and-error!

Summer AIM International Faculty:
Lea Beverley, Expression Judge
A member of the Sweet Adelines International Judging Program since 2001, Lea Beverley became a Certified Expression Judge in 2006 and has served as a Panel Chair & Judge Analyst. She finds judging quite fulfilling – both delving into barbershop intricacies and getting to know folks around the world. Coaching has become a passion, as Lea is currently coaching choruses & quartets across the US. She also coaches extensively throughout New Zealand & Australia both in person & via Skype.
Though a proud native Texan (y’all often slips out), Lea calls Bellevue, Washington home. Formerly self-employed as a corporate tax consultant, she is now joyfully spending time with family (minus this time of quarantine). When not ‘doing music’, Lea also loves spending time on the beach, watching baseball & football and creating crafty projects.
